Cambridge University Library has a new exhibit entitled “Books and Babies: Communicating Reproduction,” which explores the ongoing interactions between the “two senses of reproduction” over time. If you cannot make it to England before the end of the year, you can peruse the exhibit in its extensive online form.
Reflecting on “Books and Babies,” this Book Bench article suggests that while we have built an abundance of knowledge about reproduction, our thinking about the subject has been rather unchanging—verging, perhaps, on “morbid fascination.”
“There’s a genius to this exhibit. It allows you flip, so to speak, through the pages of our sexual past and to see each entry for what it is: an idea, powerful yet paper-thin, overlaying the impenetrable mystery of our existence.”
