MONDAY 8/22: Amy Waldman reads from her new novel The Submission, which chronicles New York City two years after a terrorist attack similar to 9/11. Barnes and Noble 82nd & Broadway. 7 p.m. Free.
TUESDAY 8/23: WORD Brooklyn hosts a launch party for Jennifer Close’s novel Girls in White Dresses, which follows three women going through life’s ups and downs while attending numerous weddings and bridal showers. 7 p.m. Free.
WEDNESDAY 8/24: CALYX presents a night of poetry featuring New York writers in their summer issue; Elana Bell, Claudia Cortese, and Janlori Goldman will read. Bluestockings. 7 p.m. Free.
THURSDAY 8/25: KGB Bar presents a night of prose with Benjamin Feldman, who will read from his forthcoming collection of essays, A Rite of Return, and Sarah Deming will read essays about her failed careers in porn and alcohol marketing. 7 p.m.
FRIDAY 8/26: The Central Park Film Festival runs from Aug. 23-27 with this year’s focus on films about music. Tonight’s film is Shine a Light, the 2008 documentary about The Rolling Stones, directed by Martin Scorsese. Enter the Park at 72nd St., movie will be held in the landscape north of Sheep Meadow. Gates open at 6:30 with guest DJs. Movie at 8 p.m. Free.
SATURDAY 8/27: MoMA PS1 presents the Warm Up, the outdoor series with live experimental music, performances, and DJs. Today’s line-up includes: Tanlines, NguzuNguzu, Teengirl Fantasy, Sun Araw, and Physical Therapy. 2 p.m. $15; free for MoMA members and Long Island City residents.
SUNDAY 8/28: Inkwell, literary journal produced by Manhattanville College, presents a reading celebrating its fall issue and 15th anniversary. Hosted by incoming editor-in-chief Tanya M. Beltram and Richard R. Binkel and featuring contributors Todd Bowes, Shane Cashman, Deirdre Jacobson, Anne Whitehouse, and Kathleen Williamson. Cornelia Street Café. 6 p.m. $7 includes a drink
