In conversation with Mother Jones, graphic novelist Craig Thompson discusses his new love story, Habibi, his early affinity for cartooning, and growing up in a fundamentalist Christian household.
“They used to be very upset by it and say that my work was satanic, even. They used that term. And so, they were really troubled by the message, they said it was the devil’s message in my work. And when they had suggestions of how I could use my talent, they would bring up like, VeggieTales, those Christian animated vegetables.”
