Paul La Farge’s novel is coming to your local bookseller’s shelves soon. Luminous Airplanes, is about a man cleaning up his deceased grandfather’s home. His book’s got an accompanying website with sample passages and new material, in the spirit of crafty, innovative internet usage.
On the website, the story branches out in new directions, beyond what is included in the print publication (hypertext or immersive text). The internet is the perfect medium for a narrative’s digressions and expansions and La Farge uses this facet to expound upon, and not distract from, the print. His editor described it like this: “Imagine reading David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest while moving freely back and forth between the text and the accompanying footnotes.” So there you go. It’s cool.
Here’s a short interview brought to you by Time Out Chicago that will help your anticipation grow to new heights.
