In a recent interview with a French magazine, prolific novelist Philip Roth claims his 2010 novel, Nemesis, will be his last. In fact, Roth claims he is even done reading. Roth says:
“And after that, I decided that I was done with fiction. I do not want to read, to write more,” he said. “I have dedicated my life to the novel: I studied, I taught, I wrote and I read. With the exclusion of almost everything else. Enough is enough! I no longer feel this fanaticism to write that I have experienced in my life.”
After two National Book Awards, three PEN Faulkner awards, a Pulitzer Prize, and countless other honors, even if Roth never writes another line, we’d say he’s had a damn good run.
