Happy Birthday, Marguerite!

Two Marguerites share this day as their birthday.

Marguerite Duras, who said, “When the past is recaptured by the imagination, breath is put back into life,” was born today in 1914.

Also born today in 1928 was Marguerite Ann Johnson, better known as Maya Angelou. A lady of many talents, she not only writes but also sang and was the first black female streetcar conductor in San Francisco.

Happy Birthday, Marguerite(s)!

Maya Angelou also danced professionally for years and early in that career, she danced with Alvin Ailey. As a duo, they went by “Al and Rita.” She makes me feel as though I’ve been sitting on my hands my entire life!
