Get ready for the Morning News’s tenth annual Tournament of Books, a “March Madness–style battle royale” to determine which work of fiction will reign supreme (though the site is careful to note that the competition “is not an attempt to formalize the best 17 books of 2013”).
Some of this year’s finalists include The Signature of All Things by Rumpus interviewee Elizabeth Gilbert and Long Division by Rumpus interviewee Kiese Laymon. The judges are just as exciting, including our essays editor Roxane Gay, Rumpus Book Club author Jami Attenberg, and The Millions editor Lydia Kiesling (we think we know which way she’ll vote on The Goldfinch…).
The Fault in Our Stars author John Green will also be judging. Green lost the tournament in the final round last year to Rumpus friend Adam Johnson, whose book The Orphan Master’s Son went on to win that year’s Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. So pay attention to ToBX—they’re tastemakers over there!
