Enthusiasm has been gathering for today’s reissue of Tom Diabo’s Dark Star, written from 1979–86 as the German post-punk artist first recuperated from, and then sadly finally died of, cancer. The reissue is coming via Body Double LTD, a subsidiary of Captured Tracks led by Corey Cunningham (Terry Malts) and Matt Kallman (Real Estate, formerly of GIRLS). Recorded using a two-track, Dark Star haunts; it’s eerie, piercing—but that barely does it justice. LP orders are accompanied by a 7-inch of songs previously only released to Diabo’s family, including the gorgeously, painfully gentle “Little Pilgrim.” Listen to tracks via the Body Double LTD SoundCloud and hear about the journey to re-release from Cunningham via Brooklyn Vegan. The record is available for sale on the Captured Tracks site and in stores today.
