Numero Group is re-releasing the Olympia trio’s final two albums in a 4-LP box set. Empire combines the band’s incredible final album, Leaves Turn Inside You (2001), alongside Challenge for a Civilized Society (1998), not to mention the usual box set collection of demo recordings, B-sides, unreleased studio recordings, and some comprehensive ruminating on the ’90s indie rock scene. Although Challenge for a Civilized Society isn’t typically considered one of Unwound’s most well loved albums, Pitchfork makes a good case for why this less loved record is still pretty incredible, and how Leaves Turn Inside You is the kind of stand-out album that speaks for itself.
