In the long list of things we wished had happened, there’s a Dune directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky. It would star Salvador Dali, Mick Jagger, and Orson Welles. Pink Floyd was going to do the music and H.R. Giger would handle designs. It was going to be the ultimate cult film and we were all going to love it.
In an attempt to re-open the door to what could have been, 2013’s documentary Jodorowsky’s Dune interviewed the director and tried to describe what his version would have looked like. For the documentary, composer Kurt Stenzel wrote a score that realized its own incredible world, so perfectly vintage bizarre in its feel that Light in the Attic Records has announced it will be releasing Stenzel’s score in its entirety this November.
In the documentary, Jodorowsky says
I wanted to do a movie that would give the people who took LSD at that time the hallucinations you would get with that drug, but without the hallucinating….I wanted to fabricate the drug’s effects.
