Over at Hazlitt, Sarah Gerard interviews Matthew Seger, who is currently incarcerated in a maximum security prison, and reveals what it’s like to keep up a writing discipline behind bars:
Before, if I wanted to write something down, I’d scribble it onto some notebook paper and then later transcribe it into a Word document and save it onto a hard drive. [In jail, my notebooks] ended up being a dumping ground for everything, not just for writing stories or keeping track of what was going on, on a day-to-day basis, but almost like a place to hoard up my thoughts. I feel like all of these ideas I have will someday, maybe, be of some use. I don’t want to let any of them go.
