Sonny Smith’s latest record SEES ALL KNOWS ALL is a monologue in album format about a San Francisco that sadly seems to be disappearing. If you are familiar with Sonny & the Sunsets, you won’t be surprised that Sonny’s latest album has dream episodes, hallucinogenic trips, spaceships, romance—all darkly funny and sweet, in a disturbing sort of way.
The monologue is broken into six parts, and is, in Sonny’s words, “Sort of a Spalding Gray typa thing if Spalding Gray had a band and wasn’t himself but was me.” It features San Francisco musicians Kelley Stoltz, Shayde Sartin, Rusty Miller, James Finch, Germán Carracosca, and Jordi Llobet, and was debuted in a five-night run at San Francisco’s Lost Church.
SEES ALL KNOWS ALL comes out tomorrow, January 15th, via Empty Cellar Records. The release is limited to 300 powder-blue splattered LPs with a deluxe old-style linen jacket featuring artwork by Bay Area artists Chris Johanson, Shayde Sartin, and Shannon Shaw. Watch the album’s video announcement and listen to chapter five of the album, “Ayahuaska,” after the jump.
