The novel has already proved polarizing among Austen fans. “Sadly disappointing, this book is just trying to cash in on the popularity of Austen’s characters,” one angry reader wrote on Goodreads. A critic for Kirkus Reviews warned, “Don’t expect to get the same level of romantics and Darcy-inflicted swoon that make the original untouchable.”
