This week’s theatre recommendation is the SF Opera’s nearly perfect production of Czech composer and libretticist Leoŝ Jánaĉek’s great masterpiece, Jenůfa. Grand Opera, generally, is a dicey proposition: there is so much that can go wrong! But when the orchestra, the singers, the acting, and the staging combine to produce great art, opera hits an aesthetic sweet spot to be found in no other art form. SF Opera’s Jenůfa achieves that level of magnificence; it is superlative. If opera rings your bell, you’ll be chiming like Big Ben at this one. For further information, click here.
