The violence of the past days has left the nation in a state of shock, and citizens are reacting with the full range of human responses to crisis. Many artists can be counted among those who demand we respond as a country to the violence against black bodies. To name a few: The Game and Snoop Dogg organized a protest against police brutality in Los Angeles; Miguel cried as he impressed upon an audience the urgent need for change; Beyoncé offered a message to the public urging for an end to the violence, and then submitted a mournful addendum following the deaths of Dallas police officers this weekend.
And, as a reminder of the tragedy that follows violence long after news headlines turn away, Eric Garner’s sister and brother released the song “I Can’t Breathe” to mourn the family member they lost to unwarranted police force that has gone unpunished. Listen to the song after the jump.
