Jack White now has claim to a scientific achievement: he led the project to launch a vehicle that played the first vinyl record in space. The high-tech record player cleared our atmosphere to broadcast “A Glorious Dawn,” from Carl Sagan’s famous TV series Cosmos.
We’re a little dubious as to the efficacy of the project, given the amount of resources—especially fuel—that it takes to launch such a vehicle into space. But if you’re going into space anytime soon and want to bring your tunes, Jack White’s got a turntable you can use. Which is nice to know, right?
Watch a short documentary about the project and launch after the jump.
