The Smiths and PETA have released a video game in a collaborative effort to fight the violence of industrial agriculture’s treatment of livestock. Taking its inspiration the song “Meat Is Murder,” This Beautiful Creature Must Die asks players to fight to save chickens, pigs, cows, and turkeys from slaughterhouse doom. The game’s music is, of course, an 8-bit version of the original Smiths song.
Morrissey’s statement about the game highlighted his belief in the importance of the game’s message, declaring: “This game is the biggest social crusade of all as we safeguard the weak and helpless from violent human aggression. You don’t get that from Pokémon Go.”
