Notable San Francisco: 11/23–11/29

It’s a slow week for events, so we can all take a deep breath for reflection, then plunge back in this weekend. Thank you for visiting The Rumpus and helping to keep our communities alive and lively.

Saturday 11/26: Come hang with the East Bay crowd at Saturday Night Special, where participants will get down with the theme of “surreal.” Hugh Behm-Steinberg will be a featured reader. Free (one drink minimum, cash only), 7 p.m., Nick’s Lounge.

Monday 11/28: Bay Area Generations, featuring this fine lineup of intergenerational pairs: Shizue Seigel + April Yee, Justice Morríghan + Ryanaustin Dennis, John Haggerty + Katrin Gibb, Peter Bullen + Sarah Bethe Nelson, Keith Donnell + Lisa Alden, and Jessica Hahn + Barbara Campbell. 7:30 p.m., $7–$10, Hotel Rex.

Tuesday 11/29: City Lights welcomes readers Eavan Boland (A Poet’s Dublin) and Ari Banias (Anybody: Poems). Free, 7 p.m., City Lights.

This week’s theatre recommendation is the San Francisco premiere of Rapture, Blister, Burn at the Custom Made Theatre Company. Gina Gionfriddo’s hilarious, didactic, and insightful Pulitzer-nominated exploration of gender politics touches on the history of feminism, Internet porn, academia, raising a gay child, marital compromise, aging, and more. Every nuance is explored in Leah Abrams’s insightful staging, and the tight ensemble of five actors brings depth to the characters while leaving no laugh unmined. Read a review here.
