With rumors and speculation about another new record dropping on the second Coachella weekend flying, Kendrick Lamar’s fourth studio album DAMN. (out via TDE/ Interscope) has already established itself as an instant classic.
Lamar, who prefers to identify as musician and a writer rather than a rapper, called his album “Very urgent.” DAMN. is a fourteen-track exploration of a man facing the collapse of his beliefs, both religious and personal. From the album opener “BLOOD” to the final track “DUCKWORTH.” (the musician’s actual last name) the album tells a family story, where life, death, and religion are the main themes.
Listing Rihanna, Zacari, and U2 as featured artists, and produced by, among others, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, James Blake, Steve Lacy, and BadBadNotGood, DAMN. is a necessary album. Watch a video for “Humble” below.
