Twenty-three-year-old Greta Kline is one of the most prolific singer/songwriters recording today. Vessel, her latest album, out now on Sub Pop Records, is her fifty-second release and the third studio album by her indie pop outfit Frankie Cosmos. As we learn in the album’s press release, “Kline explores all of the changes that have come in her life as a result of the music she has shared with the world for the past half-decade, as well as the parts of her life that have remained irrevocable.”
Helped by multi-instrumentalists David Maine, Lauren Martin, and Luke Pyenson, Vessel took shape amidst the the band’s many tour stints, with Kline taking raw sketches of the new songs to the rehearsals and the full band working together to arrange and finishing them. Kline’s dissonant lyrics are paired with the band’s driving, jangly grooves, creating several moments on the album where the band’s chemistry is brought to the forefront.
