Tuesday 4/24: Maya Rao presents Great American Outpost: Dreamers, Mavericks, and the Making of an Oil Frontier. Common Good Books, 7 p.m., free.

Wednesday 4/25: More Than a Single Story: Visions of the Future for Men of Color. Local writers, artists, and activists will discuss masculinity and the danger of stereotypes that narrowly define us. David Mura will lead the conversation with Art Coulson, Ezekiel Joubert, Shinaah Thao, and Michael Torres, with an opening poem by Anthony Ceballos. Hamline Midway Library, 6:30 p.m., free.
Mary Kay Rummel will be reading from her poetry collection, Cypher Garden. Rummel will be joined by poet Thomas Smith, with a book signing to follow the reading. SubText Books, 7 p.m, free.
Thursday 4/26: Celebrate National Poetry Month with Milkweed Editions! Join Milkweed for an evening honoring poets and the vitality of the Twin Cities poetry community. Milkweed Editions, 5:30 p.m., free.

Friday 4/27: Come celebrate Lynette Reini-Grandell’s newest book of poetry, Wild Verge, with Holy Cow! Press and the Loft. Musician Venus DeMars will emcee the evening and play some songs. Open Book, 7 p.m., free.

Saturday 4/28: It’s Independent Bookstore Day! Join other book-lovers in celebrating our local bookstores! Rain Taxi’s Twin Cities Literary Calendar is teaming up with eighteeen great independent bookstores in the Twin Cities to celebrate Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, April 28. All over town, all day long, free!
