An additional main source was Nell Irvin Painter’s excellent biography, Sojourner Truth: A Life, A Symbol, which not only creates a moving human portrait of an Afro-Dutch girl sold away from her parents, but which also thoughtfully debunks many of the myths we’ve inherited about her.
