Met him at the low bar of the evening me
sitting there nursing another rum & detachment
when in he slips through the thinnest crack
in the door like an unpaid gas bill that tells you
you got two more days to figure it all out
I was mad about him and all that it was
a very low bar and he jumped it like a jeep
leaping over the bollards meant to keep a
jeep from jumping
traffic stopped
and so did my heart, speaking of what needed
a jump, and all my bones stood at attention
pretty soon we were banging around in the
back of his car, which was thankfully big
unlike so many other things that night
and then he was off like a light headed
south in a northbound lane and I just hope
folks were smart and got out of his way
