A. Poythress is a non-binary lesbian currently working towards a PhD in creative writing/fiction at Oklahoma State University after receiving their MFA from Columbia College Chicago in creative writing/fiction. A lover of all things spooky, they primarily write horror and surreal fantasy stories about women and queer folk. When they’re not working on their first novel, they are reviewing books and interviewing authors for various literary publications. AP has been published in print and online at The Lit Pub, New Southern Fugitives, Hair Trigger, Thresholds UK, Brilliant Flash Fiction, Asymmetry Fiction, the AWP Writer’s Notebook, and more.

The Rumpus publishes original fiction, poetry, literary humor writing, comics, essays, book reviews, and interviews with authors and artists of all kinds. Our mostly volunteer-run magazine strives to be a platform for risk-taking voices and writing that might not find a home elsewhere. We lift up new voices alongside those of more established writers our readers may already know and love. We want to bring new perspectives into the conversation that will make us all look deeper.
