ris Jamahl Dunkle is the current Poet Laureate of Sonoma County, CA. Her second poetry collection, There's a Ghost in this Machine of Air, was published in November 2015 by Word Tech Editions. Her newest collection, entitled Interrupted Geographies, will be published by Trio House Press in 2017. Dunkle teaches writing and literature at Napa Valley College. She is on the staff of the Napa Valley Writers conference and currently resides with her family in Northern California.

The Rumpus publishes original fiction, poetry, literary humor writing, comics, essays, book reviews, and interviews with authors and artists of all kinds. Our mostly volunteer-run magazine strives to be a platform for risk-taking voices and writing that might not find a home elsewhere. We lift up new voices alongside those of more established writers our readers may already know and love. We want to bring new perspectives into the conversation that will make us all look deeper.
