Mena is the author of the website www.upsidedownwritesideup.com. She has been an English and Literature teacher for seven years in the Deep South. Mena grew up a middle child of parents in love with the written word, and she likes to take care of people and animals. When she's not teaching and grading papers, she's writing essays and books and playing with her little foundling dog, Hobbes, who was a bait dog in a fighting ring.

The Rumpus publishes original fiction, poetry, literary humor writing, comics, essays, book reviews, and interviews with authors and artists of all kinds. Our mostly volunteer-run magazine strives to be a platform for risk-taking voices and writing that might not find a home elsewhere. We lift up new voices alongside those of more established writers our readers may already know and love. We want to bring new perspectives into the conversation that will make us all look deeper.
