Susan Straight's new memoir, In the Country of Women, will be released August 6, 2019 by Catapult. A new edition of her novel Highwire Moon was published in July 2019 by Counterpoint. She's published eight novels. Her essays and stories have appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times, McSweeney's, The Rumpus, Harpers, Granta, and other places. She is Critic-at-Large for the Los Angeles Times.

The Rumpus publishes original fiction, poetry, literary humor writing, comics, essays, book reviews, and interviews with authors and artists of all kinds. Our mostly volunteer-run magazine strives to be a platform for risk-taking voices and writing that might not find a home elsewhere. We lift up new voices alongside those of more established writers our readers may already know and love. We want to bring new perspectives into the conversation that will make us all look deeper.
