Marina from Ukraine (visit her on last.fm) contributed these illustrations by Alexandr Mychajlow for Fairytales of Foreign Writers (Ukraine, 1988). I can’t find any info on the artist.

The top two illustrations are for E. T. A. Hoffmann’s “The Golden Pot” (in which the character Serpentina appears). Even if you hate the German Romantics — but then, how could you stand this blog? — you should give the novella a try. I read the Oxford translation, but it’s also in this nice edition and countless anthologies.
