Monday 9/6: The Quiet Lightening reading series gets into the Labor Day Spirit with a pre-reading picnic at Dolores Park. I have it on good authority that QL co-founder, Evan, will be bringing homemade bread (because he told me so!) There will be much lounging about, eating, music, and general merrymaking, so bring something tasty to share and a blanket to lay out on. At 7pm the party moves to the Mina Dresden gallery for readings and the latest copy of sPARKLE & bLINK. Picnic @ 3pm/Reading @ 7-9pm ($3). The Mina Dresden Gallery is located @ 312 Valencia Street.
Tuesday 9/7: mountains and molehills is an evening of words and music to accompany the Sean McFarland exhibit at the Adobe Books Backroom Gallery. Tom Comitta, Jennifer Foerster, Rod Roland, and Sarah Fran Wisby will read with live music by Spencer Owen. 7:30-10pm @ 3166 16th Street.
Wednesday 9/8: Are you a part of the Rumpus Book Club? Do you want to be? Are you on the fence? Head over to the Haight for the Rumpus Book Club In-Person Discussion of Tao Lin’s Richard Yates at Booksmith. 7:30pm @ 1644 Haight Street.
Thursday 9/9: While I do try to give you a variety of venues to check out each week, you will likely want to head back to the Booksmith tonight for an evening with the Godfather of “cyberspace”, William Gibson. Gibson will read from his latest novel, Zero History. 7:30 @ 1644 Haight Street.
Friday 9/10: It’s Literary Death Match time again! Episode 33 pits street poet/novelist Pam Benjamin, mystery novelist Cara Black, SF Chronicle lifestyle blogger Mike Adamick, and crime novelist Domenic Stansberry against each other to be judged by experimental philosopher Jonathon Keats, author Laura Albert, and legendary rock poster artist Ron Donovan. As always, the fun starts promptly at 7pm at the Elbo Room. Tickets $7-10, 21+, 7-9pm @ 647 Valencia Street.
