Figment, the new website for young adult readers and writers, was launched on December 6th and clocked in 4,000 subscribers on its first day. The site features a blog, forums, and hosts a library of user-submitted writing (my favorite part of the site). I just read through three poems and a short memoir, and like I’ve said before, I’m impressed with what some of these young writers have to say.
Figment is a great marriage between giving young adults an opportunity to have their voices heard and giving publishers the fly on the wall experience into what these kids are thinking about, talking about, and reading.
The New York Times, in an article about Figment, says: “Teenagers and their reading habits have been the subject of much fascination in the publishing industry lately…Publishers are eager to learn more about their reading habits and introduce books to them.”
