“Dear Good Ole Boys of the Literary South”

“You try to make people cry — in workshops and at parties. […] But just to make sure no one thinks you’re really soft, you kill off as many dogs as you can on the page, add in brawls, blood and eyeballs.”

Julianna Baggott has some strong but inspiring words for the “Good Ole Boys of the Literary South.”

  1. I don’t get this blog post at all. It sounds like she is annoyed at one specific individual and it has nothing to do with actual southern writers or southern literature?

  2. Oh, I don’t know. I think it sums up a fair number of southern male writers, both living and dead.

  3. If she’s targeting a specific individual, then I think her post is spot on. I’ve met such an individual. And I just couldn’t believe it. And I still can’t believe it. Some things are unbelievable.
