MONDAY 10/31: Happy Halloween! Spend the evening at the literary Halloween party at Housing Works Bookstore Café with Granta magazine. Come dressed in a literary-themed costume and listen to readings from Granta 117 contributors Julie Otsuka and Raj Parameswaran. 7 p.m. Free.
TUESDAY 11/01: The Strand will host Chuck Palahniuk’s first and only NYC event for his new book, Damned. Off-site at the Great Hall at Cooper Union. 6 p.m. $30 (this price gets you a signed copy of Damned). Make sure you reserve your tickets.
WEDNESDAY 11/02: Get really down and dirty tonight with Mike Edison, publisher of High Times and author of I Have Fun Everywhere I Go, as he discusses his new book, Dirty! Dirty! Dirty!, a pop-culture history of girlie magazines. WORD. 7 p.m. Free.
THURSDAY 11/03: Four Way Books will host it’s fifth annual book launch at McNally Jackson with authors Tina Chang, Of Gods & Strangers; Sarah Gorham, Bad Daughter; Rigoberto Gonzalez, Black Blossoms; Claire Kageyama-Ramakrishnan, Bear, Diamonds and Crane; and Jonathan Wells, Train Dance. 7 p.m. Free.
FRIDAY 11/04: Cave Canem presents a reading with the 20120 Cave Canem Poetry Prize-winner, Iain Haley Pollock, reading from his collection, Spit Back a Boy. Contest judge Elizabeth Alexander and honorable mention Vida Cross, will also be in appearance. Lillian Vernon House, New York University. 5 p.m. Free.
SATURDAY 11/05: It’s First Saturday at the Brooklyn Museum, with free programs and entertainment from 5 to 11 p.m. Some of the events include an artist talk with Sanford Biggers about his exhibition, Sweet Funk—An Introspective; a book discussion with author Paul Beatty, The White Boy Shuffle; and a dance party featuring the music of Fela Kuti, Afrobeat, and world music.
SUNDAY 11/06: Three Rooms press presents a book launch for the poetry collection You Are White Inside, by B.R. Lyon. The night will also include readings from other Three Rooms Press authors, Hala Alyan, Peter Carlaftes, Kat Georges, and Jane Ormerod, and music from The J.D.s featuring Bob Musial. Bowery Poetry Club. 8 p.m. $8.
