GROUNDHOG DAY

Hello, and welcome to my week-by-week review of everything in the world. Today I am reviewing Groundhog Day.
Groundhog Day is one of my favorite movies. It is directed by Harold Ramis, who is also known as Egon from the popular films Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II. Groundhog Day stars Bill Murray, also of the Ghostbusters films. Sadly, the ghost known as Slimer is not in Groundhog Day. That is probably my only complaint.
The premise of the film is that Bill Murray plays a really big jerk who gets trapped in a timeloop of Groundhog Day. It’s unclear why this happens, but I believe it is caused by the mystical powers of Punxatawney Phil, a magical groundhog who steals many scenes throughout the film. He even drives a truck at one point. I couldn’t believe my eyes!
This movie was made before CGI, so the groundhog is played by an actual groundhog, not a computer-generated one. To be honest, I prefer CGI animals to real ones because there’s no risk of a computer-made animal being hurt while filming, and I almost never want an animals to get hurt.
It is unclear how long Bill Murray spends in the timeloop. It could be a week or even decades. The end result of living the same day over and over is that he becomes omniscient. He knows everything that is going to happen before it happens. It’s like he’s a psychic, but he never opens his own business, I guess because it takes more than a day for the paperwork to go through.
A lot of Bill Murray’s time is spent trying to make Andie MacDowell fall in love with him. Personally, I don’t think they’re a good match, but then again I’ve never been a good matchmaker. I tried to get my barber to date a woman I met on the bus and then she turned out to be an escaped convict, which my barber wasn’t into.
I haven’t seen Groundhog Day in a while, and I wanted to rewatch it for this review, but my library’s only copy is on DVD. So, I don’t really remember how the movie ends. I think Bill Murray learns a lesson and thanks the magical groundhog for it’s wise and benevolent gesture. Or he may get trapped in the timeloop forever and be driven mad. All I know is I really liked the ending and either one sounds good to me.
It is my favorite Bill Murray movie next to Garfield.
