Friday 5/9: The city honors the great Studs Terkel with “Let’s Get Working,” a three-day festival presented by the University of Chicago that celebrates his massive contribution to the literary canon of the people with oral history, storytelling, film, performances, and art. Events all day and late into the evening at Logan Center for the Arts.
Cin Salach and Jennifer Magnus bring their poetry and reputations as two of the city’s leading interdisciplinary poets to Andersonville at Women and Children First Books, 7:30 p.m.
Saturday 5/10: Genevieve Kaplan, Joel Craig, and Nathan Hoks are the featured poets at the Myopic Poetry Series in Wicker Park, 7 p.m.
Sunday 5/11: If it’s the second Sunday of the month, it’s live lit at The Savoy. That’s All She Wrote presents Carey Friedman, Suzy Krueckeberg, GPA, and Luke Babb for an evening of live nonfiction essays. 8 p.m.
Wednesday 5/14: Rumpus Essays Editor Roxane Gay comes to Lincoln Square to promote her new novel, An Untamed State. She’ll also talk about her forthcoming essay collection, Bad Feminist, due out later this year. The Book Cellar, 7 p.m.
