Blake Mills is an accomplished studio guitarist who’s worked with a wide variety of impressive names including Lucinda Williams, Conor Oberst, Fiona Apple, Lana Del Ray, Norah Jones, Billy Gibbons, Band of Horses, and others. But Mills’s previous credits were eclipsed by the 2010 release of Break Mirrors, a solo album that earned high praise. His latest record, Heigh Ho, is an even more mature statement distinguished by sparkling guitar work, heartfelt vocals, and impeccable production. “Don’t Tell Our Friends About Me” showcases Mills’s versatile voice and a songwriting talent that has, apparently, been quietly developing while he was busy wowing listeners in other ways.
