Mark Jacobson, a professor of medicine at UCSF and attending physician at San Francisco General Hospital, began his internship just when the CDC noted the first reported cases of the autoimmune deficiency syndrome later identified as AIDS. This week’s theatre recommendation is one of the plays being presented at the Playground Festival of New Works, Abominable or the Misappropriation of Betty Onion by Forces Beyond Her Control, a world premiere by Betty May. Reviewer Barry Horwitz describes this original comedy as, “profound, mysterious, and brilliant.” The Playground is a leading incubator of new work in the Bay area, and this year is presenting its 20th edition of the Festival of New Works.
