Help Small Presses Live to Fight Another Day

What if you could spend a little bit of money to make sure that your favorite books from independent publishers, like Coffee House Press, Dorothy, and Copper Canyon Press, turn up at your local bookstore?

Small Press Distribution, the tiny nonprofit that makes sure your favorite indie books are stocked on store shelves, is holding a fundraiser in the form of a literary trivia contest: the first annual Battle of the Brains. And you can support their noble cause by donating to any of the competing teams.

But I really want you to support the team “Quiz-team-a Aguilera and the Alternative Facts.” Because the name is perfect, and I’m on this team, along with several other poets, novelists, and editors from the Bay Area literary scene. Nobody is more literary and trivial than we are.

So please spend a few bucks to make sure you continue to stumble across great books at your local bookstore—donate here!

Brian Hurley is the Publisher at Fiction Advocate and an executive editor at a book publishing start-up in the Bay Area.
