If you haven’t heard about The Second Shelf yet, it’s not too late to support this important project! Writer A.N. Devers is determined to address gender inequality in the rare book world, and she’s created a business designed to do just that.
Through Tuesday, you can contribute to the Second Shelf Kickstarter and scoop up some incredible rewards, too.
Devers writes in the Guardian:
The Second Shelf involves exhibits at book fairs, selling to dealers and collectors directly, and—soon—an online store. But I followed a different path to become a book dealer: I jumped in without training, finding and buying books, all the while learning how to evaluate them mostly on my own. I’ve tested the idea at book fairs, where I made reasonable profits, but I’ve also launched a Kickstarter to help get it up and running, also an unusual path for a dealer. But I hope to identify supporters (and hopefully future collectors), and launch a quarterly publication filled with writing by contemporary women authors on the books they feel deserve more attention.
We believe wholeheartedly in supporting women-owned small businesses, and especially in supporting a woman-owned small business with a mission to make sure that women and genderqueer writers are remembered and honored in the same way as male writers. If you’d like to be a part of The Second Shelf, please check out its Kickstarter today!
