In Situ: Despair As An Art Form
Deb Lucke’s work is primarily narrative, sequential and humorous. Her graphic novel series, The Lunch Witch, received starred reviews in Publisher’s Weekly and School Library Journal. The latter also placed it on their Top Ten Graphic Novels of 2015 list and the New York Public Library included it on the Top 100 Titles to Read and Share 2015. The series has been optioned by Amblin Pictures and is in development with Michael De Luca Productions with Kate McKinnon to star. Lately, Deb has also been doing comic reporting. She enjoys working on a comic backwards from the actual event to the paper and thinks of what she ends up with as “found humor.” She has covered parades, the cub scout’s Pinewood Derby, barn dances, and an infestation of gypsy moth caterpillars for The Highlands Current. She is also proud to have participated in several issues of Resist!, a tabloid newspaper of comics made by women with political opinions. Visit her website at www.deblucke.com.
