Friday 12/20: Head over to Berkeley for a screening of Amazing Grace, a documentary of Aretha Franklin’s live album of the same name. BAMPFA in Berkeley at 4 p.m. ($5–$13, tickets required).
Show Us Your Spines residents will be reading from their work. The night will feature Alexander Torres, Clem Breslin, Jianda Monique, and Muriel Leung (Bone Confetti). Alley Cat Books in San Francisco at 6 p.m.
Laotian poet and dancer Krysada Phounsiri (Dance Among Elephants) and Cambodian memorist Sieu Sean Do (A Cloak of Good Fortune) will be reading and discussing their work. Oakland Asian Cultural Center in Oakland at 6:30 p.m. (RSVP suggested, free/$3–$5 suggested donation).
