John Wesley Harding has been making really sweet tunes since 1988. His 12th release The Sound of Your Own Voice, which came out in October, features a star-studded group of musicians including members of the Decemberists, Peter Buck, Laura Viers and Roseanne Cash.
I couldn’t really write a Daily Rumpus today (not a long one certainly, until I decided not to). Why? Last night I was with rock stars.
Tuesday night, November 17, the Rumpus and Tin House presented a night of variety acts such as David Rees on the art of choosing numbers, Todd Barry on what women want, Starlee Kine on Zen ping-pong and Care Bears on Fire who proved that you can rock out before you’ve lost your baby fat.

It occurred to me this morning, because the hottest party in Austin is the Fader/Levi’s party (that’s not really true, it depends on your measurements, it’s complicated), but it reminded me that the people making money in 1849 weren’t digging for gold, they were making pants.
