Illustrations by Elzbieta Gaudasinska for The Sun has Fallen into the Sack by Jerzy Bieniecki (Poland, 1975).
As you can see, the book was actually published in English translation — but only in Poland.
I found a bio for the illustrator at Pumpkin House Press, which publishes her Love for Three Oranges (Prokofiev):
Elzbieta Gaudasinska’s specialty is creating enjoyable, vivacious illustrations using a blend of watercolor and colored pencil. Born in Poland in 1943 and a graduate of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, she has won high praise in Europe as an illustrator. Her numerous honors at illustrator exhibitions include a Golden Apple at the Biennial of Illustration Bratislava (BIB) and the annual Poznan Children’s Visual Art Award. Ms. Gaudasinska’s work has also been exhibited at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, the Leipziger Buchmesse, the Internacional Catalonia d’illustracio, and the Exhibition of Publishers of Poland. The Love for Three Oranges is her American debut. Elzbieta Gaudasinska resides in Poland.
I hope to find more of her books. Chance plays a greater part in collecting these books than I like to admit to myself.
Some of the illustrations have the feel of prime Push Pin.
