Maudlin: a feeling we don’t so much encounter as create. A sad place with funereal bits and a ladle of self-pity. Darker than Fitzgerald’s dark night of the soul, it is a place far past despair. A solitary dwelling, ourselves awash in squid ink. Maudlin is heavy, creaking, internal. It escapes conveyance, though we ourselves can see and feel it. Fear. Lost in the undertow.
Maudlin is a solitary dwelling; we are alone in it. Our whole selves seem to be draped with black crepe. There may be no stars, but there’s always music. Music to fit our mood, to keep us company. We curl inward and just let the music in. Maudlin won’t last forever, but when it hits, this mix is here. (C. run time: 58:12.)
