Thursday 1/10: Get a bit out of town for Why There Are Words, celebrating its third anniversary in Sausalito and featuring readings from Julie Bruck, Lewis Buzbee, Carolyn Cooke, Dean Rader, Melissa Stein, Glen David Gold, Matthew Zapruder and Cary Tennis. 7pm, $10 suggested donation.
Friday 1/11: Green Apple Books hosts Bay Area native Jon Boilard who will read from A River Closely Watched, the author’s first novel depicting “an exercise in noir, or perhaps…a Southern gothic come to rural New England.” Free, 7pm.
Saturday 1/12: View the auditions for San Francisco’s 2013 Ethnic Dance Festival for $10 (kids free). Kitty Kelly Epstein discusses social advocacy in Oakland with Organizing to Change a City, alongside co-authors Kimberly Mayfied and Jesse Taylor. Free, 4pm, Do 4 Self Bookstore.
