Monday 1/27: Bring your 5 minute story for a chance to get onstage Feb. 17th at the Verdi Club with Porchlight. The theme is Long Walks on The Beach: The Dating Show. $5, 7 p.m. at the Hemlock Tavern.

Tuesday 1/28: City Lights hosts an evening with Dennis McKenna, author of the new book The Brotherhood of the Screaming Abyss: My Life with Terence McKenna at the Emerald Tablet. Free, 7 p.m.

Wednesday 1/29: At Book Passage in Corte Madera, Diane Johnson, the New York Times bestselling author of Le Divorce and L’Affaire, reads from her new memoir Flyover Lives. Free, 7 p.m.

Thursday 1/30: Presented by SF Sketchfest, the Improvised Shakespeare Co. will create  a fully improvised Shakespearean masterpiece based on a suggestion from the audience. $25, 7:30 p.m. at the JCCSF.

Friday 1/31: Impromptu Crow, Spontaneous Storks: A Spoken Art extravaganza with Nora Toomey, Kimberly Kim, Jessamyn Lyn Pattison, Mg Roberts, and Paul Corman-Roberts, followed by an open mic. Free, 5:30 p.m. at the Stork Club in Oakland.

Saturday 2/1: Celebrate the release of Ashley Farmer’s new Tiny Hardcore Press title, BESIDE MYSELF with readings by Ashley Farmer, Ethel Rohan, Daniel Levin Becker, and Sarah Marshall. 7 p.m. at the Make-Out Room.

Sunday 2/2: The Bazaar Writer’s Salon hosted by Peter Kline meets at Bazaar Cafe. Free, 6 p.m.
