Open mics, poetry contests, theatre prospects—a small “Art Bar” in Santa Cruz, California is using art, beer, and uniquely named food to fund local arts education.
On its busiest days, the Tannery is a warren of studios featuring painters, sculptors, glass blowers, a bit of everything. Right next door is the Tannery World Dance & Cultural Center, so there are tango-ers and hip-hoppers wandering by the Art Bar all the time.
“We’ve got everything at our fingertips here,” said Devaney. “You name it, we have access to it. There’s no better place to do what we’re doing than right where we are.”
