Friday 11/17: Visit Women & Children First to celebrate the release of No Relation, Paula Carter’s debut collection of flash memoir. 7:30 p.m., free.

Sunday 11/19: As always, the Uptown Poetry Slam is going down at The Green Mill. Open mic starts at 7 p.m. followed by the slam itself. $7, 21+.

Monday 11/20: Essay Fiesta turns 8! Celebrate with readings from Britt Julious, Chris Bower, Stephanie Douglass, Danette Chavez, Andrew Marikis, and Sarah Michael Hollenbeck. The Book Cellar, 7 p.m., donations to 826CHI encouraged.

Tuesday 11/21: The Open Door series at The Poetry Foundation continues with readings by Chicago State University’s Kelly Norman Ellis and her student April Gibson along with DePaul University’s Kathleen Rooney and her student Andrea Rehani. 7 p.m., free.
