I don’t think I’ve had more fun with any recent read than last year’s I Have Fun Everywhere I Go: Savage Tales of Pot, Porn, Punk Rock, Pro Wrestling, Talking Apes, Evil Bosses, Dirty Blues, American Heroes, and the Most Notorious Magazines in the World by Mike Edison. Edison’s memoirs read like a Forrest Gump of sleaze, as he alternates touring with the era’s craziest punk rockers, most notably the stage-defecating GG Allin, with editing jobs at magazines representing every vice known to man, from porn (Screw Magazine), to pro-wrestling (Wrestling’s Main Event), to pot (High Times). Discovering just how a place like High Times or Screw stays functional enough to actually put out an issue every month is worth the price of admission, but Edison’s swaggering writing style is a joy in its own right.
