I haven’t found much info on Bohumil Stepan (1913 – 1985), though based on his style I’ll guess that he and Adolf Hoffmeister (1902 – 1973) were from the same circle of artists. I hope to hunt-and-gather more of his books soon.

  1. Bohumil Stepan

    Painter, graphic artist and illustrator. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Ukraine and the School of Graphic Arts in Prague Rotterova.

    He signed his first drawings in the student magazine H2SO4 (sulfuric acid). In 1937 he exhibited in the foyer of the theater figurative compositions D-38. After the war he devoted himself to political posters, one of the best known is “Yesterday a collaborator, now an alarmist” (1945) and cartoons. In the 50 years he contributed to the satirical magazine “Dikobraz” (The Hedgehog).
    In the sixties he worked mainly on the free drawing and collage. He has published in numerous magazines, illustrated many books and film posters.
    In 1969 he went into exile (Monaco), where he has illustrated many books for various publishers in Germany.
